Summary:
Ten years ago, imperial soldiers marched through the village of Varne, hauling captives and treasure back from the conquered kingdom of Darkovia. They left an orphaned child named Kriss to be raised by strangers. Now, Kriss has only vague memories of his true father, Darkovias fallen king. And in all of Varne, only his childhood playmate Anja cares for him. When a polar sabercat strays from the north, hunting and killing villagers, Anjas mother becomes it prey. Kriss sets out to avenge his grieving friend, only to discover that the beast is a spirit from his homeland, calling him to reclaim the throne of his father. It bequeaths him the gift of wrath, a burning rage that grants uncanny strength. With such power, he could destroy his enemies and take back his fathers kingdom. But it may also destroy everything he holds dear.
