Summary:
In order to understand the sophisticated Chinese Buddhist culture, this documentary film series covers the historical development, architectural style, folk legends and cultural treasures of hundreds of famous temples in different locations of China. Since Baima Temple in Luoyang, the first temple in China, Buddhist temples have existed for nearly 2,000 years in China. Generations of disciples, emperors, nobles and artisans have built many temples with their respect and zeal to Buddhism as well as with their wisdom and wealth. Each temple in this series entails deep cultural connotations and contains invaluable relics. Four of these Buddhist temples have been named as World Heritages by Unisco. Relics such as the finger bones of Buddha in Famen Temple in County Fufeng and the tooth bones of Buddha in Linguang Temple in Beijing as well as for other treasures and worshipping instruments such as royal seals, scripts, armors, steles, are all world-class treasures.
