Notes:
Text in Greek; prefaces and notes in English. "These lexical and grammatical notes are meant not as a full-scale commentary but as a clear and concise aid to the beginning student. The editors have been told to resist their critical impulses and to say only what will help the student read the text. Our commentaries, then, are the beginning of the interpretive process, not the end. We expect that the student will know the basic Attic declensions and conjugations, basic grammar (the common functions of cases and moods; the common types of clauses and conditions), and how to use a dictionary. In general we have tried to avoid duplication of material easily extractable from the lexicon, but we have included help with the odd verb forms, and recognizing that endless page-flipping can be counter-productive, we have provided the occasional bonus of assistance with uncommon vocabulary."--taken from Series Preface by Richard Hamilton, general editor, page after title page. "This commentary, like others in this series, is meant to supplement an existing commentary, in this case the still very serviceable one of W.B. Stanford [London, 1958], whose extremely helpful introduction should be studied both before and while reading the text. This commentary differs from the others in offering a great deal of help with vocabulary, which proves such a burden at first reading. The assistance becomes noticeably less frequent as the commentary progresses; particularly common vocabulary is marked with an asterisk and glossed only two or three times."--taken from Volume Preface by Beth Severy, Richard Hamilton, verso of page after title page. English and Greek. "This commentary supplements that of W.B. Stanford (London, 1958)"--P. [1].
