Summary:
Knowledge of the prehistoric occupation of the Middle Missouri region in North Dakota has grown slowly through the years. One of the major gaps which exists is a lack of information on the Terminal Middle Missouri horizon. Until the 1965 field season, the only site representative of this horizon which had been excavated was the Huff site, 32M011. This study presents data on the second site assignable to this horizon. The Shermer site, 32EM10, was excavated in 1965 and 1966 under cooperative agreements between the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the National Park Service. It is a prehistoric Indian village situated approximately 20 miles southeast of Bismarck on the east side of the Missouri River. The filling of the Oahe Reservoir will endanger the Shermer site.
