Summary:
Audition is a deeply disturbing meditation on the war between the sexes masquerading as a horror film. Aoyama is a lonely Japanese film producer and widower who lives with his teenage son. One evening his son tells him he's starting to look old, and that he should remarry. With the help of pal Yoshikawa he stages a film audition, ostensibly to cast a new film, but really to find a new wife. Smitten by willowy Asami--whose resume tells of a terrible injury that destroyed her ballet career--Aoyama falls in love and quickly proposes. Love may be blind, but Aoyama is about to discover how dangerous blindness can be. Aoyama failed to see that during their initial meeting, Asami was auditioning him, too. Unfortunately, he failed the tryout.
