Summary:
Grandparents in Cultural Context gives a long overdue global view of the changing roles of grandparents. The 11 main chapters are by experts on grandparenthood in the Americas, Europe, Russia, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and the editors integrate findings from these cutting-edge chapters with past work to formulate an agenda for future international research. Rather than statistically dense research reports, each chapter provides a thought-provoking and integrative review of research, real-life case stories, cultural/historical backgrounds, predictions for the future, and applied implications for grandparenthood across and within societies. Calling special attention to the roles of grandfathers, and of societies seldom represented in the literature, this book cities hundreds of references to work previously unavailable in English-language publications.
