"Yeoville, one of Johannesburg;s oldest suburbs and long-time home to Orthodox and Hassidic Jews, became a bastion of anti-apartheid and anti-racism struggles in the decade before South Africa's first election. It was celebrated as a model of non-racial co-existence attracting musicians, artists and political activists. Now the neighbourhood is in decay, but some still struggle to resurrect it. This is a personal portrait of a once powerful symbol of the free South Africa told by a young, black, filmmaker who lives with his family in Yeoville"--Container.
