Summary:
Set in early 1930s Cambodia amidst the first intimations of the coming revolution, the film tells the story of an impoverished widow and long-term expatriate (Isabelle Huppert) whose identity is shaken to the core when her teenage children make a break for independence and colonial bureaucrats threaten to take back her paddy fields.
