Summary:
"Shibaraku was first performed in 1692 by Ichikawa Danjūrō I, who is also credited as its author.... [It] is one of the finest examples of the aragoto or "wild" acting style employed by Danjūrō to portray superheroes and villains.... [In the] story of Shibaraku... a group of nobles are rescued from execution by the timely arrival of a heroic young warrior"--Leaflet. "Uirōuri, 'The Medicine Peddler,' first made its appearance on the Kabuki stage in 1718 as one character in the play Wakamidori Ikioi Soga.... [The] character was based on contemporary street peddlers whose fast sales patter would advertise a special Chinese medicine called Uirō"--Leaflet.
