Summary:
"Elinor Rabbit and her best friends Ari (a bat) and Olive (an elephant) are playing hide-and-seek in the school yard at recess. No matter where they hide, the Goat twins always seem to find them. The trio are getting discouraged, when suddenly a hopping leaf makes them all jump! But it's not a leaf at all; it's a camouflaged katydid! Intrigued by their discovery, the three friends go in search of more hidden animals. They find that all sorts of animals use their colors, shapes and patterns to camouflage in the wild. Taking their cue from nature, Elinor, Ari and Olive use their own colors, shapes and patterns to find the perfect hiding spots. The solution to their hide-and-seek problem was hiding in plain sight! Sidebars with more science facts and a key vocabulary word are interspersed throughout, and an activity at the end of the book teaches kids how to observe the animals in their own neighborhood and identify which ones use camouflage."
