Some texts in this book speak directly about slave labor in the 21st century. Others can be read as brief fictional accounts, or a mixture of reportage, chronicle and memorialism. This mixture of modalities of speech gives an intimate and, in some cases, poetic dimension to the dramatic and tragic issues of Brazilian and Mozambican societies. It is necessary to free oneself from the dominant patterns of the colonizer's culture, which degrades the soul and body of the social fabric. It is a difficult task, but it is part of the desire or dream of a more just society. This seems to be, more or less, the implicit theme of the texts gathered here.
