Three dances in the classical Indian dance form called Kuchipudi after the hamlet of Kuchelapuram in Andhra Pradesh, South India, where it originated in the 17th century. Originally performed only by men, it began as a product of the Bhakti (Devotion) movement, as is demonstrated by the themes of these dances, with their references to the Hindu god Krishna. Each dance is preceded by program notes, and English subtitles translate the lyrics. A brief biography of dancer Manju Bhargavi appears at the end of the program.
