Illustrates ways to avoid the transmission of pathogenic organisisms to patients and employees in the hospital environment. The chain of infection is defined. Basic health and work practices are highlighted. Updated to reflect new CDC guidelines for universal precautions involving blood-borne diseases. After completing this course, the learner should be able to: describe recent changes in TB occurrence rates, explain the difference between latent TB infection and active TB disease, define multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and define and explain the CDC's three levels of TB infection control.
