The Last of the Wild is a story about three generations of an immigrant family as they work to transform the untamed Iowa forests and prairies. The book chronicles the daily joys and trials that the family encounters both locally and nationally during the mid- to late 1800s. The family faces challenges from the outside world as well as within the family itself. The book documents the family's struggles as they try to define their roles within the family and the new nation they are helping to shape. At the same time they are faced with a battle against a legendary foe that wants to reclaim the land as he once knew it. The book will be an entertaining read for anyone ages eight to eighty.
