Summary:
This comprehensive monograph on American pop artist Jim Dine (1935) appears in conjunction with an exhibition of his work in Rome. Spanning over six decades of activity, it offers a close reading of Dine's complex artistic biography and oeuvre. Many of these works are considered precursors to some of the most interesting art being produced today. The happenings, in particular, which Dine and his friends initiated in 1960 and are covered in great detail, were essential to the success of contemporary performance art. Besides reproductions of large-scale paintings, fetish objects, and minimalist sculptures, the book includes texts by the artist and in-depth critical analyses. Exhibition: Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, Italy (15.02-02.06.2020).
