Summary:
Looks at lead exposure in Kabwe, the capital of Zambia's Central Province, which was home to a lead and zinc mine from 1904 to 1994. Children are especially at risk; half of the children in townships around the former mine have elevated blood lead levels that warrant medical treatment. This publication documents the response of the Zambian government to the contamination, revealing that the government has failed to clean up the lead-affected townships or provide sufficient testing or treatment for affected children in the area.
