Summary:
"Lesia Ukrainka (Larysa Kosach-Kvitka, 1871-1913) was a Ukrainian writer of universal importance. In her play "The Song of the Forest," written two years before her death in 1913, she expressed her deepest idealistic outlook, focusing on the contrast between good and evil, loyalty and betrayal, and highlighting the ideal of harmony between human beings and nature, and the value of a free, independent spirit. The drama is based on popular legends, stories and folksongs Lesia Ukrainka knew intimately from her childhood."-- Provided by publisher.
