520 3 $a This study investigated perceptions of graduates from two different leadership development programs, considering influences in three areas: (a) the individual (program graduate), (b) the participant’s organization, and (c) the participant’s community. The researcher identified program elements that have greater or lesser influence after completion of a leadership development program. Qualitative methodology and a comparative case study research design was employed, with a questionnaire portion first, followed by a semi-structured 60-minute-long interview portion that was completed via Zoom and recorded. The pool consisted of all graduates of two leadership development programs, which were randomly sampled for data collection; the sample included 12 graduates from a large statewide program and 12 graduates from a small rural community program. Furthermore, the purposeful sampling by graduation year allowed the researcher to gain graduates’ descriptions of influencing factors on their own lives, their organizations, and their communities. The researcher noted that participants may have been influenced by other factors outside of the leadership program. Findings reflected a positive influence of leadership development programs, both large and small, in both similar and different ways. These findings offer new insights related to the development of purpose or intentions of leadership development programs connected to how graduates then perceive influences on themselves, their organization, and their community.
