A chronicle of the Novembergruppe / $r Janina Nentwig. 520 8 $a In the wake of World War I and the German Revolution of November 1918, a group of German artists, architects, composers, and writers banded together to work toward a democratic society that would reflect the values of the Weimar constitution. Some of the most celebrated artists of the period were members or participated in their numerous exhibitions, including Otto Dix, Max Ernst, Walter Gropius, George Grosz, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Hannah Hoech, and Piet Mondrian. In an effort to reflect the liberal values of Germany's newly established socialist government, the group was open to all styles, from Cubism, Futurism, and Expressionism to Dada, Abstraction, and New Objectivity. Until their dissolution in 1935, when they were banned by the Nazi regime, they exhibited nearly 3,000 works throughout the country. This book focuses on three distinct periods over the course of the group's history. Each section features essays and a series of elegantly reproduced illustrations. Presenting over one hundred works, this compilation offers new perspectives on the avant-garde art of Weimar Germany, its socio-utopian ideals, and its attempts to build bridges inside the artistic community as well as between the artists and their fellow citizens. 504 $a Includes bibliographical references and index. 518 $o "Freedom: the Art of the Novembergruppe 1918-1935" : $d November 9, 2018-March 11, 2019, $p Berlinische Galerie, Museum fuÌr Moderne Kunst, Berlin, Germany. 546 $a Text in English, translated from the German. 610 20 $a Novembergruppe (Association) $v Exhibitions. 610 20 $a Novembergruppe (Association) $x History and criticism. 610 20 $a Novembergruppe (Association) $x Themes, motives. 610 27 $a Novembergruppe (Association) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00699817 650 0 $a Expressionism (Art) $z Germany $v Exhibitions. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008103456 650 0 $a Art, German $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2007101400 650 0 $a Avant-garde (Aesthetics) $z Germany $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art and revolutions $z Germany $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art $x Political aspects $z Germany $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 7 $a Art, German. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00816307 650 7 $a Expressionism (Art) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00918895 651 7 $a Germany. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01210272 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1424028 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1424028 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026098 655 7 $a Essays. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026094 655 7 $a Illustrated works. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026111 700 1 $a KoÌhler, Thomas, $d 1966- $e editor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2002039569 700 1 $a Burmeister, Ralf, $e author. $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr2007013065 700 1 $a Nentwig, Janina, $e author. $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr2006032973 700 1 $a Kratz-Kessemeier, Kristina, $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2008020736 700 1 $a WuÌnsche, Isabel, $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr98012970 700 1 $a Zeising, Andreas, $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2008152046 700 1 $a Beimdieke, Sara, $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2016150218 700 1 $a Grosch, Nils, $d 1966- $e author. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr97001155 700 1 $a Vanovitch, Katherine, $e translator. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82132410 710 2 $a Berlinische Galerie, $e host institution. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80128209 710 2 $a Prestel Verlag, $e publisher. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85059203 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191126022114.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=F9C17E1E101A11EA8DA14E4D97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
