It documents the everyday practices that local female actors adopt to deal with the continuous economic, political, and social insecurities that emerge in times of political transformations. Carole Ammann argues that women's political articulations in Muslim Guinea do not primarily take place within women's associations or institutional politics such as political parties; but instead women's silent forms of politics manifest in their daily agency, that is, when they make a living, study, marry, meet friends, raise their children, and do household chores. The book also analyses the relationship between the female population and the local authorities and discusses when and why women's claim making enjoys legitimacy in the eyes of other men and women, as well as representatives of 'traditional' authorities and the local government. Paying particular attention to intersectional perspectives, this book will be of interest to scholars of African studies, social anthropology, political anthropology, the anthropology of gender and urban anthropology, gender studies, and Islamic studies"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Women $x Political activity $z Guinea. 650 0 $a Political participation $x Sex differences $z Guinea. 650 0 $a Women $z Guinea $x Social conditions $y 21st century. 650 0 $a Urban women $z Kankan $z Kankan $x Social conditions $y 21st century. 650 0 $a Women $x Government policy $z Guinea. 650 0 $a Urban anthropology $z Kankan. $z Kankan. 650 7 $a Political participation $x Sex differences. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1069403 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1069403 650 7 $a Urban anthropology. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1162365 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1162365 650 7 $a Urban women $x Social conditions. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1162701 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1162701 650 7 $a Women $x Government policy. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1176754 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1176754 650 7 $a Women $x Political activity. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1734136 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1734136 650 7 $a Women $x Social conditions. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1176947 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1176947 651 7 $a Guinea. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1206005 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1206005 651 7 $a Guinea $z Kankan. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1231898 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1231898 648 7 $a 2000-2099 $2 fast 776 08 $i Online version: $a Ammann, Carole, $t Women, agency, and the state in Guinea $b 1. $d New York : Routledge, 2020. $z 9780429199547 $w (DLC) 2019049292 830 0 $a Routledge studies on gender and sexuality in Africa. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2017011807 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231020015007.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=541C3148DCB911EC8436229451ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
