Golbarg Rekabtalaei takes a unique look at Iranian cosmopolitanism and how it transformed in the Iranian imagination through the cinematic lens. By examining the development of Iranian cinema from the early twentieth century to the revolution, Rekabtalaei locates discussions of modernity in Iranian cinema as rooted within local experiences, rather than being primarily concerned with Western ideals or industrialisation. Her research further illustrates how the ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity of Iran's citizenry shaped a heterogeneous culture and a cosmopolitan cinema that was part and parcel of Iran's experience of modernity. In turn, this cosmopolitanism fed into an assertion of sovereignty and national identity in a modernising Iran in the decades leading up to the revolution. 650 0 $a Cosmopolitanism in motion pictures. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2018000481 650 0 $a Motion pictures $z Iran $x History $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Motion picture industry $z Iran $x History $y 20th century. 650 7 $a Cosmopolitanism in motion pictures. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst02002350 650 7 $a Motion picture industry. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01027150 650 7 $a Motion pictures. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01027285 651 7 $a Iran. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204889 650 7 $a Film. $2 gnd 650 7 $a Filmwirtschaft. $2 gnd 651 7 $a Iran. $2 gnd 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 776 08 $i ebook version : $z 9781108307987 830 0 $a Global Middle East (Cambridge, England) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2017054612 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191217024839.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=73EE46E6209B11EABA878C2E97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
