Contributions look at the concurrent histories of communalism and globalization in four South Asian contexts - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - as well as in various diasporic locations. Encompassing different disciplinary and theoretical perspectives, and a range of methodologies, the book offers substantial scholarly analysis that base arguments on close-up views of specific historical and contemporary phenomena. Contributors argue that communalism is not a resurgence of tradition, but rather an inherently modern phenomenon and a product of the fundamental agencies and ideas of modernity. Similarly, it is also argued that globalization should not be identified as a unique and unprecedented process. With contributions by some of the most notable scholars working on communalism in South Asia and its diaspora as well as a selection of challenging new voices, the book is an important stimulation of new debates surrounding the relationship between communalism and globalization, and is a useful contribution to studies on South Asia and Asian History. 650 0 $a Communalism $z South Asia. 650 0 $a Globalization $z South Asia. 650 0 $a South Asians $z Foreign countries $x Ethnic identity. 650 0 $a Transnationalism. 650 6 $a Communalisme $z Asie meÌridionale. 650 6 $a Mondialisation $z Asie meÌridionale. 650 6 $a Sud-Asiatiques $z Pays eÌtrangers $x IdentiteÌ ethnique. 650 6 $a Transnationalisme. 650 7 $a Society. $2 eflch 650 7 $a Communalism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00869870 650 7 $a Globalization. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00943532 650 7 $a Transnationalism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01154884 651 7 $a South Asia. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01244520 650 0 $a Communalism $z South Asia. 650 0 $a Globalization $z South Asia. 650 0 $a South Asians $z Foreign countries $x Ethnic identity. 650 0 $a Transnationalism. 700 1 $a Heath, Deana. 700 1 $a Mathur, Chandana. 700 1 $a Heath, Deana. 700 1 $a Mathur, Chandana. 830 0 $a Intersections (London, England) ; $v v. 3. 941 $a 1 952 $l PLAX964 $d 20240724070210.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=88C65472214711EEBC7340321FECA4DB 994 $a 92 $b IOHInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
