Later, the son falls in love with a young female convict, but after he performs a special surgery on a deranged man he and his mother are pardoned and return to France. Meanwhile, an unscrupulous warden tries to take the young woman left behind for himself, but the efforts by the surgeon and his mother to free her pay off just in time.
