Although slavery is rightly in the public eye, most of the voyages did not touch West Africa or carry slaves; and it is with this aspect that this volume is concerned. Most of the items here are the Owners' Accounts of voyages showing the costs, the returns and the profits. Nearly 40 round trips are covered here, and this should give a fair deal of the variable factors and those which were critical to success. But there are also three stories of adventure on the high seas told by those on board: a surgeon's journal on a privateer; a journal of two round trips with an illustration for almost every day; and a logbook of a merchantman sailing under convoy in the French Wars of the 1790s. Each section contains its own discussion and analysis, together with transcriptions of the records bearing on the main points of interest and a full listing of all. -- $c Details from publisher. 504 $a Includes bibliographical references and index. 648 7 $a 1700-1799 $2 fast 650 0 $a Merchant marine $z Bristol $z Bristol $x History $y 18th century $v Sources. 650 7 $a Commerce. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/869279 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/869279 650 7 $a Merchant marine. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1016936 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1016936 650 7 $a Poor. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1071040 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1071040 651 0 $a Bristol (England) $x History, Naval $y 18th century $v Sources. 651 0 $a Bristol (England) $x History $x History $y 18th century $v Sources. 651 0 $a Bristol (England) $x Economic conditions $y 18th century $v Sources. 651 7 $a America. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1239786 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1239786 651 7 $a England $z Bristol. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1209154 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1209154 651 7 $a Great Britain. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1204623 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 710 2 $a Bristol Record Society, $e issuing body. $4 http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/isb $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50049874 700 1 $a Brown, Alison $c (Archivist) $e editor. $4 http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2018155923 700 1 $a Harlow, Jonathan, $e editor. $4 http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2012012884 830 0 $a Bristol Record Society's publications ; $v v. 74. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n83719330 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117032142.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=CF046242851711EEB4A9908744ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
