Young. 520 8 $a Andreas Vesalius's fame derives from his writing of what is perhaps the most famous book in the history of medical science, 'De humanis corporis fabrica' (1543), a treatise that within a few years transformed the imperfect art of anatomy into a modern science. This extraordinary work, however, came into being not just because of its author's genius and industry, but for other reasons that remain (despite a vast body of scholarship) inadequately explored. These questions, the historical moment from which they stem, and the setting in which Vesalius produced the 'Fabrica', form the core of this volume. Some of these significant factors include the short time during which 'De fabrica' was produced, the debated authorship of its illustrations, and its immediate and subsequent impact on the teaching of anatomy. The book's significance within the context of present-day views of its historical value, and the ever increasing fascination it evokes among scholars and collectors alike, are also examined. 600 10 $a Vesalius, Andreas, $d 1514-1564. $t De humani corporis fabrica. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81035169 600 10 $a Vesalius, Andreas, $d 1514-1564. $t De humani corporis fabrica $x Influence. 630 07 $a De humani corporis fabrica (Vesalius, Andreas) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01358656 600 17 $a Vesalius, Andreas, $d 1515-1564. $t De humani corporis fabrica. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4427384-8 650 12 $a Anatomy, Artistic $x history. $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D000716Q000266 $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D000716Q000266 650 22 $a Medical Illustration $x history. $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D008488Q000266 $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D008488Q000266 650 22 $a Printing $x history. $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D011327Q000266 $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D011327Q000266 650 22 $a History, Early Modern 1451-1600. $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D049692 $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D049692 651 2 $a Italy. $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D007558 $0 https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D007558 650 0 $a Human anatomy $v Early works to 1800. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008105843 650 0 $a Anatomy, Artistic $x History. 650 0 $a Medical illustration $x History. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2010101334 650 0 $a Medical publishing $x History. 650 7 $a Anatomie. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4001895-7 650 7 $a Druckgrafik. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4113357-2 650 7 $a Illustration. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4123412-1 650 7 $a Kunst. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4114333-4 651 7 $a Italien. $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4027833-5 650 7 $a 21.32. $2 nbc 700 1 $a Canalis, Rinaldo F., $e editor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n99801893 700 1 $a Ciavolella, Massimo, $d 1942- $e editor. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85287109 830 0 $a Cursor mundi (Turnhout, Belgium) ; $v v. 33. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2008077110 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231019020707.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=43D3A8141B1B11EAA846F92397128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
