A Russian emigre, Svechina moved to France with her husband in 1816. She had recently converted to Roman Catholicism, and the salon she opened acquired a distinctly religious character. It quickly became one of the most popular salons in Paris and was a meeting place for the French intellectual Catholic elite and members of the Liberal Catholic movement. As a salonniere, Svechina developed close friendships with some of the most noted public figures in the Liberal Catholic movement. Her involvement with her guests went deeper than the typical salonniere's. She was a mentor, spiritual counselor, and intellectual advisor to many distinguished Parisian men and women, and her influence extended beyond the walls of her salon into the public world of politics and ideas. In this fascinating biography, Tatyana Bakhmetyeva seeks to understand the creative process that informed Svechina's life and examines her subject in the context of nineteenth-century thought and letters. It will appeal to educated readers interested in European and Russian history, the history of Catholicism, and women's history"-- $c Provided by publisher. 600 10 $a Swetchine, $c Madame $q (Anne-Sophie), $d 1782-1857. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84178677 610 20 $a Catholic Church $z France $x History $y 19th century. 600 17 $a Swetchine, $c Madame $q (Anne-Sophie), $d 1782-1857. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00140969 610 27 $a Catholic Church. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00531720 650 0 $a Catholic converts $z France $v Biography. 651 0 $a France $x Intellectual life $y 19th century. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85051441 651 0 $a Saint Petersburg (Russia) $x Intellectual life $y 19th century. 650 0 $a Salons $z France $x History $y 19th century. 650 0 $a Salons $z Saint Petersburg $z Saint Petersburg $x History $y 19th century. 650 7 $a BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY $x Religious. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a HISTORY $z Europe $x Russia & the Former Soviet Union. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a HISTORY $z Europe $x France. $2 bisacsh 650 7 $a Catholic converts. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00849161 650 7 $a Intellectual life. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00975769 650 7 $a Salons. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01104198 651 7 $a France. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204289 651 7 $a Russia (Federation) $z Saint Petersburg. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01212867 648 7 $a 1800-1899 $2 fast 655 7 $a Biography. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423686 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1423686 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 655 7 $a Biographies. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026049 776 08 $i Online version: $a Bakhmetyeva, Tatyana, author. $t Mother of the church. $d DeKalb : Northern Illinois University Press, 2016 $z 9781609091989 $w (DLC) 2016030364 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231018023740.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=2BE4FA1A08B111E8A8C4D83297128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
