Yet, in conditions of extreme poverty and instability, conditions characteristic of Africa, the pressures on parents differ markedly from those facing parents in communities that are typically the focus of research in child development. This timely book addresses the dearth of literature in this area. There is an increasing awareness of the need for a broader knowledge base regarding infant and child development. One of the consequences of this awareness is a burgeoning interest in research in the field in Africa. The recent World Health Organization report 'Social Determinants of Health' has focused the interest of the academy on factors outside traditional medicine, on the social determinants of later problems and the profound inequities that exist as a result of poverty and how these impact on infant and child development. This volume will sit squarely within this context and will offer a broad contextualised understanding of the factors that impact upon infant and child development in Africa. Unlike other works on the subject it is Africa-wide in its scope, with case studies in Uganda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi and South Africa. Recommended for: Academics, students and practitioners in psychology, including developmental psychology, child clinical psychology, developmental psychopathology, psychiatry, human ecology, and those in schools of education. It will also be of interest to nurses and paediatricians, health workers and for those interested in early childhood development. 650 0 $a Child development $z Africa. 650 0 $a Developmental psychology $z Africa. 650 0 $a Child psychology $z Africa. 650 0 $a Adolescent psychology $z Africa. 650 0 $a Poor children $z Africa. 650 0 $a Poor families $z Africa. 650 7 $a Adolescent psychology. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00797018 650 7 $a Child development. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00854393 650 7 $a Child psychology. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00854540 650 7 $a Developmental psychology. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00891816 650 7 $a Poor children. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01071167 650 7 $a Poor families. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01071206 651 7 $a Africa. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01239509 650 7 $a DeÌveloppement de l'enfant $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a SanteÌ publique $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a SanteÌ de l'enfant $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a Enfants $x Psychologie $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a Psychologie de l'adolescent $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a Enfants de familles pauvres $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 7 $a Pauvres $z Afrique. $2 ram 650 17 $a Child Development. $2 mesh 650 17 $a Adolescent Development. $2 mesh 650 27 $a Psychology, Child. $2 mesh 650 27 $a Psychology, Adolescent. $2 mesh 650 27 $a Psychology, Developmental. $2 mesh 650 27 $a Poverty. $2 mesh 651 7 $a Africa. $2 mesh 650 7 $a Gesundheitswesen $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4020775-4 650 7 $a Jugend $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4028859-6 650 7 $a Kind $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4030550-8 651 7 $a Afrika $2 gnd $0 (DE-588)4000695-5 650 12 $a Child Development. $0 (DNLM)D002657 650 22 $a Adolescent Development. $0 (DNLM)D041923 650 22 $a Psychology, Child. $0 (DNLM)D002666 650 22 $a Psychology, Adolescent. $0 (DNLM)D000297 650 22 $a Socioeconomic Factors. $0 (DNLM)D012959 651 2 $a Africa. $0 (DNLM)D000349 700 1 $a Tomlinson, Mark $q (Mark R.), $e editor. 700 1 $a Hanlon, Charlotte, $e editor. 700 1 $a Stevenson, Anne, $c MSc, $e editor. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231017020953.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=6BFAEB82462211E9A3F20F6897128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
