The myth around him survived thanks to the inclusion of fifteen poems from Defense of the Idol in the groundbreaking anthology AntologiÌa de poesiÌa chilena nueva from 1935. Presented here for the first time in English translation, along with the sole foreword Vicente Huidobro ever wrote for a poet, the poems of CaÌceres possess a ghostly, metaphysical energy combined with modern-age imagery: bows pulsate, moons hurtle, rains sing, trees drag their shadows in drunk stupors, winds break the sky open. But the interior life of the poet assumes dominance, interrogated through anguished, turbulent dreamscapes of language."--Publisher's website (viewed 2018 July 25). 545 0 $a "Omar CaÌceres (b. 1904) was a cult poet in the Chilean avant-garde. He published one book of poetry, Defense of the Idol (1934), with an introduction by Vicente Huidobro, of which only two copies survived after CaÌceres tried to burn the entire print run upon publication due to the edition's numerous typos. He had ties with the Communist Party, and according to poet Jorge Teillier, played the violin in an orchestra of the blind. He was murdered by unknown assailants in 1943."--Publisher's website (viewed 2018 July 25). 546 $a In Spanish and English on facing pages. 600 10 $a CaÌceres, Omar, $d 1904-1943 $v Translations into English. 650 0 $a Chilean poetry $y 20th century $v Translations into English. 655 7 $a Poetry. $2 lcgft. 700 1 $a Torre, MoÌnica de la, $e translator. 700 1 $a Huidobro, Vicente, $d 1893-1948, $e writer of introduction. 700 12 $i Contains (expression): $a CaÌceres, Omar, $d 1904-1943. $t Defensa del IÌdolo. $l Spanish. 700 12 $i Contains (expression): $a CaÌceres, Omar, $d 1904-1943. $t Defensa del IÌdolo. $l English. 700 1 $a Bourne, Andrew $c (Book designer), $e book designer. 700 1 $a Lawson, Sarah $c (Typesetter), $e compositor. 700 1 $a Smith, Rebekah $c (Typesetter), $e compositor. 710 2 $a Ugly Duckling Presse, $e publisher. 710 2 $a McNaughton & Gunn (Firm), $e printer. 830 0 $a Lost literature series ; $v 23. 941 $a 2 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191213021632.0 952 $l CAPH522 $d 20190604033307.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=11E7A2D073B211E9B17D2A1797128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
