Called Makt Myrkranna (literally, "Powers of Darkness"), this Icelandic edition included an original preface written by Stoker himself. Makt Myrkranna was published in Iceland in 1901 but remained undiscovered outside of the country until 1986, when Dracula scholarship was astonished by the discovery of Stoker's preface to the book. However, no one looked beyond the preface and deeper into AÌsmundsson's story. In 2014, literary researcher Hans de Roos dove into the full text of Makt Myrkranna, only to discover that AÌsmundsson hadn't merely translated Dracula but had penned an entirely new version of the story, with all new characters and a totally re-worked plot. The resulting narrative is one that is shorter, punchier, more erotic, and perhaps even more suspenseful than Stoker's Dracula. Incredibly, Makt Myrkranna has never been translated or even read outside of Iceland until now. 504 $a Includes bibliographical references (pages 301-309). 520 $a An English translation of a recently discovered Icelandic adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel "Dracula" includes new characters, a re-worked plot, and annotations that provide literary, cultural, and historical context. 650 0 $a Dracula, Count (Fictitious character) $v Fiction. 650 0 $a Vampires $v Fiction. 651 0 $a Transylvania (Romania) $v Fiction. 651 0 $a Whitby (England) $v Fiction. 655 7 $a Horror fiction. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Gothic fiction. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Adaptations. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Horror fiction. $2 gsafd 655 7 $a Gothic fiction. $2 gsafd 700 1 $a De Roos, Hans, $e translator. 700 1 $i Adaptation of (work): $a Stoker, Bram, $d 1847-1912. $t Dracula. 941 $a 11 952 $l USUX851 $d 20231103011621.0 952 $l GEPG771 $d 20210722053937.0 952 $l YEPF572 $d 20200204084333.0 952 $l TYPH572 $d 20200110070235.0 952 $l BOPG851 $d 20181006103637.0 952 $l BAPH771 $d 20180816010130.0 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180119070429.0 952 $l GDPF771 $d 20170418122315.0 952 $l GBPF771 $d 20170404013457.0 952 $l ZYPE837 $d 20170401010545.0 952 $l TDPH826 $d 20170315011658.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=A7BB591CEF5E11E68E2CC982DAD10320 994 $a C0 $b JIWInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
