Notwithstanding her collective--fat, Black female--identity she catapulted into mainstream success while redefining the social script for body size, race, and gender. This book explores a tale of two narratives: Lizzo's self-curated, fat-positive identity and the media's reaction to an unabashedly proud fat, Black woman. This critical analysis examines how Lizzo challenges fatphobia and reconstitutes fat stigmatization into self-empowerment through her strategic use of hyper-embodiment via social media, and the rhetorical distinctions between Lizzo's self-curated narrative via social media and those offered about her in print media. In part, Lizzo's bodily flaunting is argued as a significant rhetorical act that emancipates her identity of fatness and reframes the negative tropes of (fat) Black women typically curated in American culture. 600 00 $a Lizzo, $d 1988- 650 0 $a Body image in women $z United States. 650 0 $a Self-esteem in women $z United States. 650 0 $a Identity (Psychology) 650 0 $a Stigma (Social psychology) 650 0 $a Obesity in women $x Social aspects $z United States. 650 0 $a African American women $z United States $x Social conditions. 650 0 $a African Americans in mass media. 650 0 $a Women in mass media. 650 0 $a Obesity in mass media. 650 0 $a African American women singers. 650 0 $a Women rap musicians $z United States. 650 6 $a Chanteuses noires ameÌricaines. 650 6 $a Rappeuses $z EÌtats-Unis. 650 7 $a African American women singers. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00799524 650 7 $a Body image $x Social aspects. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00835349 650 7 $a Mass media $x Social aspects. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01011303 650 7 $a Rap musicians. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01089960 650 7 $a Social media and society. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst02023083 650 7 $a Women rap musicians. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01746206 650 7 $a Women singers. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01178528 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 700 1 $a Platenburg, Gheni N., $e author. 776 08 $i ebook version : $z 9783030737627 830 0 $a Palgrave studies in (re)presenting gender. 941 $a 1 952 $l PLAX964 $d 20230718100330.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=E8B83062214711EEBC7340321FECA4DB 994 $a 92 $b IOHInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
