Notes:
Originally produced as a motion picture in 1922. Based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker; freely adapted by Henrik Galeen. Special features: lengthy excerpts from other films by F.W. Murnau: Journey into the night (1920); The haunted castle (1921); Phantom (1922); The last laugh (1924); Faust (1926); Tabu (1931); choose from two musical scores in digital stereo; photo gallery; scene comparison: novel, screenplay & film. Max Schreck, Gustav von Wangenheim, Alexander Granach, Greta Schroeder, Ruth Landshoff.
Summary:
Rather than depict Dracula as a shape-shifting monster or debonair gentleman, Murnau's Graf Orlok is a nightmarish, spidery creature with a bulbous head and taloned claws. This is perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism.
