Originally released as a motion picture in 1920. 1987 restoration by Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek, Berlin, and Cinemateca Brasileira, São Paulo. "Authorized and restored by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung"--Container. This surviving film, edited in Brazil, is 422 meters shorter than the premiere edition of the film as it premiered in Berlin. No script or intertitle list is known to exist. For this edition, explanatory text has been added to facilitate comprehension of the plot where significant footage is missing.
Summary:
Follows a woman who, in the wake of a sexual scandal, seeks solitude in the Bavarian Alps. There, she is continually haunted by her past, but soon stumbles upon the one thing she never expected to find: the chance of redemption.
