Summary:
Journalist Eric Sevareid relives the war-torn years on the American home front during World War II. Initially unprepared for war, America amazed the world with the swiftness of its industrial and military mobilization. But the road to victory was long and bitter, and American resourcefulness was tested again and again. Wartime newsreels are interwoven with narrative to reveal the trials and triumphs of this remarkable era in American history.
