Summary:
Presents an old German legend about a poor student in Prague who falls in love with a wealthy countess, and sells his reflection to an agent of the devil in order to become rich and win her affection. This "second self" takes on an evil existence of its own, ruins his hopes and can only be stopped at the expense of his own life.
