Alan Brinkley is Professor of History and former Provost at Columbia University. He is the author of several award-winning books on American economics, famous figures, and politics throughout history. He was educated at Princeton and Harvard. He taught previously at MIT and Harvard. In 1998-1999, he was the Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University. He has also won several awards for teaching. Highly respected for its impeccable scholarship and elegant writing style, Brinkley's American History book provides students and instructors with a broad, comprehensive approach to the American past.
