Summary:
The diving bell and the butterfly: The French editor of Elle magazine, Jean-Dominique Bauby, who, in 1995 at the age of 43, suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye. Using that eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he'd only visited in his mind.
Welcome to Sarajevo: Living on the edge amid the constant threat of attack, an offbeat band of TV journalists, lead by hotshot Jimmy Flynn, report from a devastated war-torn country. The action intensifies when one of the journalists crosses the line and risks his life in a bold attempt to smuggle an orphaned girl to safety.
Dirty pretty things: Okwe is an illegal immigrant living in London. He was a doctor in his homeland and now works two jobs - during the day as a taxi driver, at night as a hotel desk clerk. When a prostitute tells him there's a mess in one of the hotel's bathrooms, Okwe finds a human heart in the toilet. Using his previous knowledge of medicine, he begins to solve the case of where the heart came from and soon delves into the world of body organ black-markets. He finds that his only friend, Senay, a Turkish illegal immigrant chambermaid, may be next to be used for organ parts.
Rabbit-proof fence: The controversial topic of the Stolen Generation is played out in this true story about three Aboriginal girls. Taken from their home and separated from their mothers, they are sent to a remote settlement 1,500 miles away. In response they attempt the impossible and embark on a daring escape and epic journey to find their way back home - across an unforgiving landscape that will test their very will to survive.
