Summary:
This opera is set in a small Irish fishing village in the early 1900's and explores the theme of human endurance in the face of the natural elements. Maurya, an elderly Irishwoman, has lost her husband, father-in-law, and four of her six sons at sea, and predicts that she will lose her fifth son to the same fate.
