After moving to Littleton, Colorado, 47 year old Caelum Quirk and his wife Maureen are settling into their jobs at Columbine High School. But when two students go on a murderous rampage within the school's halls, Maureen is scarred forever. The couple return to the Quirk family farm in Connecticut, where Maureen struggles to regain her sanity. Searching for a glimpse of hope, Caelum stumbles upon old diaries, letters, and clippings hidden in the ancient farmhouse. The story he discovers spans from the Civil War to Caelum's own troubled childhood, triggering in him a personal quest for meaning and happiness.
