Summary:
A famous Lucknow courtesan, abducted from her parental home (in Faizabad) as a child, bought by the procuress Khanum Jan, trained in the arts of music, dance, and poetry, is then introduced into society. Her accomplishments bring her the attentions of noblemen and courtiers, but the historical events of 1857 dash her hopes for personal escape, although she survives to tell the tale. Based on a famous Urdu novel.
