Summary:
A young English woman, accompanied by her future mother-in-law, is travelling through India to visit her fiance. Along the way, against a backdrop of race and class struggles, the pair befriends a young Indian doctor who invites them on an excursion where a strange incident occurs, leading to charges of attempted rape, a highly charged trial, and dramatic life changes for all those involved.
