Summary:
Elsker hverandre: Set in Russia in 1905 amid pre-revolutionary stirrings and anti-Semitic riots, this film follows the life of Hanna, a Jewish girl. After being denounced by a Gentile playmate from her youth, Hanna travels to St. Petersburg to visit her lawyer brother. Dreyer skillfully handles an extremely complex network of plots which involve the business and racial rivalry between the merchant parents of the two children, the decision of Hanna's brother to live as a Christian for social and business reasons, and the now adult playmate's lustful proclivities for Hanna when she returns home. Glomdalsbruden: Berit is promised by her father in marriage to Gjermund, but she loves another man. Set in a small Norwegian village.
