Alexander Hamilton played a key role in shaping the ideas, decisions, arguments, and events that established the United States government. Orphaned at a young age, this remarkable young man with a keen and nimble mind immigrated to the colonies from the West Indies, just as the patriots' cause caught fire. He served as Washington's aide-de-camp during the American Revolutionary War, and fought heroically in the battle of Yorktown. He went onto help his fellow Founding Fathers as the first Secretary of the Treasury.
