At first the tests were described as defensive, the latest strategy against the threat of Russian bombers. But as later declassified documents suggest, the goal of the testing (performed primarily in low-income and African-American neighborhoods of North St. Louis), was to develop offensive capabilities which could match the climate and terrain of downtown Moscow. Consequently, generations of St. Louis inhabitants were unwitting participants in a government testing program which, like the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Project, was facilitated by the U.S. Department of Public Health. Target: St. Louis investigates the historical catalyst for these events, the survivors' quest for answers and the subsequent Federal legislation requiring informed consent by human subjects. 520 $a Target: Philadelphia: In 1985, Philadelphia police bombed a residential building to end a days-long standoff with Black militant group MOVE, setting a new standard for institutionalized violence and the dehumanization of Black bodies. The film explores the rise of police militarization within the contexts of Black nationalism and the systemic disenfranchisement that incubates movements like Black Lives Matter. 521 $a Not rated. 538 $a DVD; NTSC; widescreen (16:9); stereo. 546 $a English dialogue, closed captions. 700 1 $a Slater, Sean $c (Filmmaker), $e film director. $e film producer, $e film director. 700 1 $a Martino-Taylor, Lisa, $e on-screen participant. 700 1 $a Hamer, Fannie Lou, $e on-screen participant. 700 1 $a Gregory, Dick, $e on-screen participant. 700 1 $a Baldwin, James, $d 1924-1987, $e on-screen participant. 710 2 $a IndiePix (Firm), $e production company. 710 2 $a MVD Visual (Firm), $e film distributor. 710 2 $a Western Independent (Firm), $e production company. 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l TDPH826 $d 20210105011929.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=B8B1E65E4F2311EB8AF6F65026ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
