Though one of the most famous artists of the Ming period, almost nothing is known about his life. He is said to have been illiterate, yet surviving evidence demonstrates elegant writing. He is said to have had few followers, yet he was the most copied painter in Chinese history. Where the Truth Lies grapples with such issues as artists who cross social boundaries, literacy, and the importance of connoisseurship in determining quality and authenticity. This will be the first exhibition on Qiu Ying ever organized outside of Asia. In addition to masterworks by Qiu Ying, the exhibition will include works by his predecessors and teachers, his daughter Qiu Zhu, and followers from the early 16th through the mid-20th century"--Publisher's website. 585 $a Published in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, California, February 9-May 17, 2020. 600 10 $a Qiu, Ying, $d approximately 1494-approximately 1552 $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Painting, Chinese $y Ming-Qing dynasties, 1368-1912 $v Exhibitions. 600 17 $a Qiu, Ying, $d approximately 1494-approximately 1552. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01842706 650 7 $a Painting, Chinese $x Ming-Qing dynasties. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01907128 648 7 $a 1368-1912 $2 fast 655 7 $a Illustrated works. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423873 655 7 $a Essays. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01919922 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01424028 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Essays. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Illustrated works. $2 lcgft 700 1 $a Kong, Wan, $e contributor. 700 1 $a Cervone, Einor K., $e contributor. 710 2 $a Los Angeles County Museum of Art, $e host institution. $e host institution. 752 $a United States $b California $d Los Angeles. 752 $a Germany $b Bavaria $d Munich. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117024043.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=F31E2A56477411EC81CA9FE82DECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
