The book was an expansion of an article about the attacks of September 11, 2001, arguing that Americans should not have been surprised by attacks against symbols of Western culture and capitalism. Rather, he cited the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children in the wake of U.N. sanctions placed on Iraq after the first Gulf War as a justification by Islamic Militants for the acts of terrorism. The most controversial aspects of his writings were the characterization of the people killed at the World Trade Center as "little Eichmanns," an illusion to Nazi Bureaucrat Adolf Eichmann, a chief facilitator of Hitler's Final Solution. Professor Churchill resigned his chairmanship of the school's ethnic studies program on January 31, 2005, while retaining his tenured faculty position. He had also come under intense media scrutiny for his ideas and a lecture at Hamilton College was cancelled after the public outcry. This talk was titled "Ward Churchill Speaks on His Book: Real Academic Discourse Outside the Filter of the Media," was sponsored by a group called "CU Students, Staff and Faculty in Support of Ward Churchill." 651 0 $a United States $x Foreign relations. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85140058 650 0 $a Militarism $z United States $x History. 650 0 $a Imperialism $x History. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008104311 650 0 $a Intervention (International law) $x History. 650 0 $a Aggression (International law) $x History. 700 1 $a Churchill, Ward. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84005363 700 1 $a Means, Russell, $d 1939-2012. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80101360 710 2 $a University of Colorado Boulder. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81059815 710 2 $a C-SPAN (Television network) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n88042020 710 2 $a C-SPAN Archives. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00067835 710 2 $a National Cable Satellite Corporation. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00069285 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180201013113.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=E7DA6CEA071D11E88A431B0A97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
