Originally thought to be only a handful, Freud in fact painted more than a dozen copper works all small-scale, enamel smooth and astonishingly intense. Based on a decade of research, this book, for the first time, brings together all of Freud's coppers, including two works that have never been reproduced before. Among these paintings is Freud's famous portrait of Francis Bacon, labeled by Nicholas Serota as "the most important portrait of the 20th century." The work was stolen in 1988 its whereabouts still unknown but during research for the book a rare photograph was discovered that shows the work just minutes before the theft, and it is published here for the first time. 505 0 $a Introduction [by David Scherf] -- Plates -- Enamel-smooth and astonishgly intense [by Martin Gayford] -- Notes on the paintings 600 10 $a Freud, Lucian. 600 17 $a Freud, Lucian. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00008419 650 0 $a Copper painting. 650 7 $a Copper painting. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00878536 700 1 $a Gayford, Martin, $d 1952- $e author. 700 1 $a Scherf, David, $e editor. $e editor. 700 12 $a Freud, Lucian. $t Works. $k Selections. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117014005.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=24C7CFAE78F711ECAF30597D2FECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
