Mark Girard moved to Angeĺs Landing in the Colorado foothills as a young boy with his mother and father, who was a chase-the-rainbow gold miner. When the strike played out and the town was destined to be abandoned, the elder Girard wanted to pick up stakes and move to the next big strike. Marḱs mother refused, opting for stability in the soon to be very tiny village. Mother, son, and the town all survived, with Mark becoming county sheriff.
