It was an important book because it argued that "sexuality" and "desire" were not a historical phenomenon but carefully managed social constructs. This insight (that actually originated with Michael Foucault) is often viewed as anti-humanist or post-humanist because it argues that men and women are simply the products of patriarchal power relations over which they have no control. By mobilizing Foucault's theories of the history of sexuality Sedgwick re-fashions Feminism and Gay and Lesbian Studies to make it seem as though Feminism and Gay and Lesbian studies are ideally situated to continue those interventions into the history of sexuality begun by Foucault. 650 0 $a English literature $x History and criticism. $x History and criticism. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008119680 650 0 $a Homosexuality and literature $z Great Britain $x History. 650 0 $a Masculinity in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh94006169 650 0 $a English literature $x Psychological aspects. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85043881 650 0 $a Feminism and literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85047747 650 0 $a Sex role in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85120668 650 0 $a Desire in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95007416 650 0 $a Men in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85083528 650 0 $a Sex in literature. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85120618 650 7 $a Desire in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00891364 650 7 $a English literature $x Male authors. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00912100 650 7 $a English literature $x Psychological aspects. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00912151 650 7 $a Feminism and literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00922735 650 7 $a Homosexuality and literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00959818 650 7 $a Masculinity in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01011040 650 7 $a Men in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01016054 650 7 $a Sex in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01114464 650 7 $a Sex role in literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01114649 651 7 $a Great Britain. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204623 655 7 $a Criticism, interpretation, etc. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411628 700 1 $a Koestenbaum, Wayne. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr88004645 830 0 $a Gender and culture. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84749515 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20171226044404.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=DCBF0FF2EA0B11E7B6F5700597128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
