Summary:
"The dance-drama Seki no To, 'The Snowbound Barrier', was first performed in 1784 at Edo's Kiri-za theatre.... It is an important example of the grand, flamboyant style typical of the Tenmei era of the 1780s.... One vital characteristic of the dance is its frequent allusion to, and sometimes witty parody of, classical literature"--Leaflet.
