Summary:
According to mythology, the ruler of Manipur brought up his daughter Chitrangada as a prince and heir, skilled in the art of warfare and governance. One day while hunting in the woods the Amazonian princess loses her heart to Arjun, who is wandering in his 12th year of exile and mistakes her for a boy. Devastated because he is left unmoved by her advances she pleads with Cupid/Madan the God of love to reconstruct her into a desirable woman, practiced in the art of love. Thus transformed she is successful in seducing Arjun but tragically when she returns to court no-one recognizes her as the prince and heir.
